Fox Gordon 2011 Eight Uncles Shiraz
Restrained, medium bodied, bright, juicy, and 13.8% alcohol. Probably not the first words you expect to see when describing Barossa Shiraz, but definitely representing the vintage. It was one of the coolest and wettest in many a decade, and possibly more ‘European’ like. So don’t go expecting over the top jammy fruit bombs.
The Fox Gordon Eight Uncles Shiraz has good aromatic intensity and is all dark fruit, spice and earth, with liquorice and tamari savouriness. On the palate its bright and fresh dark fruit, asian spices (like star anise, nutmeg), with a generous fruit finish. Given the coolness of the year, there’s no hint of greenness. Good intensity of flavours. As always with Fox Gordon it over delivers for the price. The tannins are soft and supportive. Sensational drinking now but I’d be interested to see it in 5 to 8 years.
